Backwards Christianity

What is Backwards Christianity?  Here is a good definition of it from Paul the apostle.

Romans 10:1 (from the Message Bible).
Believe me, friends, all I want for Israel is what’s best for Israel: salvation, nothing less. I want it with all my heart and pray to God for it all the time. I readily admit that the Jews are impressively energetic regarding God-but they are doing everything exactly backwards. They don’t seem to realize that this comprehensive setting things-right that is salvation is God’s business, and a most flourishing business it is. Right across the street they set up their own salvation shops and nosily hawk their wares. After all these years of refusing to really deal with God on his terms, insisting instead on making their own deals, they have nothing to show for it.

Well this makes a case for the Jews, but what is backwards Christianity.

Nothing more than Christian’s trying to do the same thing.

Trying to do your best will only make you a mess.

Anything that causes you to trust in your self is Backwards Christianity.

Faith is what made you right with God.

The same way you are made right with God is the same way you live for God.

Trying to make yourself acceptable to God is like trying to get in a room you’re already in.

Romans 1-17: For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, the just shall live by faith.

Christianly is not about trying but trusting.

The only people who are qualified for salvation are sinners.

Why did God save you?

Ephesians Chapter 2

  1. But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,
  2. Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)
  3. And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:
  4. That in the ages to come he might show the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.
  5. For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
  6. Not of works, lest any man should boast

God saved you because you were helpless and useless and beyond repair.

Review these scriptures: Rom 5:20, Rom 11:32, 1Tim 1:13, Tit 3:5

Man misses grace not because he is too sinful, but because he is not low enough. He is too proud and too moral.

Sin is one of man’s great mistakes, but to think that sin blocks man from receiving grace is a greater mistake.

The Lord is so perfect, yet His whole life is one which depends helplessly and hopelessly on God. Heb 5:7-8
